The gas lid on my 68 vette won't stay up. Can anyone explain how this is supposed to work? Does it use a spring?

Thanks, Will

Yes it is held up by a spring. And when I say spring I dont mean like a coil type spring but more of a peice of spring steel .Most of the times they get lost because they tend to pop out sometimes.I think someone sells a repro bezel/hinge assembly now.Check around, you should find one. They are the same up to 78 I think

The 68 and 69's do not use the spring in the gas lid door. That was added later. They stay up by "friction". If you remove the assembly and re-peen, or "crunch" the rivet, you'll tighten it up.

I believe that the spring was added in the 70-72 era. Chuck
