I need everyone's technical assistance on this.
My brother (who used to be in business with me long ago and now owns his own repair shop) is working on a 69 coupe with a 427, 4 spd, A/C and an air pump. Only problem is someone took the air pump off. They plugged the holes in the exhaust manifolds. Naughty, naughty!!! :ugh
This is the problem:
The main belt that runs the water pump and the power steering pump squeals like a stuck pig. The crank pulley only has two grooves. The water pump pulley only has two grooves. The A/C is run off the water pump pulley. The large belt that runs the water pump, crankshaft and ps has an idler pulley keeping tension. The idler pulley actually pushes against the flat side of the belt, kinda like the idler pulleys of serpentine belts today.
This is the question:
How was the air pump originally mounted and what pulley ran it? How does my brother get rid of the squeal?
Any pics or diagrams would be greatly appreciated!
