700r4 auto or a 4+3 manual?

I'm looking at a convertible and it has the manual 4+3 tranny. I have here the 4+3 doesn't work all that well with the overdirve in the top 3 gears? Does this mean it is not that reliable or it just doesn't give you consistent 1/4 mile times?

Any years to stay away from or are they all pretty much the same?

I prefer to shift. Any of the first ,4yrs C4s were great for their time. But compared to the 90s C4s, there is quite a difference. But a Vettes a Vette and all yrs are great!!!!!

Some guys will say they don't like the 4+3, an equal amount will say they do.
However, this much is true:

The OD unit is reliable if treated well on the road, and regularly serviced.

You will have the D44 rear with a stickshift, which is WAY stronger than an automatics D36.

If I hadn't found my 85 so cheap with an automatic, I would have held out for the stick. I say go for it.

My 85 has the 4+3 and I have had no problems with it, just regular servicing. I too like to shift.
