Okay, now...we turn the page on the next chapter of the 71 Vette resurection.

I JUST got the frame back this week. The owner of the car insisted on having it blasted and powder coated. He bought new/rebuilt Van Steele trailing arms, all new bushings, etc. etc. He hung SS fuel and brake lines as well as new calipers, front wheel bearings, seals, etc.

So, now I have to bolt the body back down, shim it, fit the doors, then bond the front clip....

You will notice how shinny the frame it. That is because he had it powder coated shinny.

I still think POR 15 or Eastwood paint products are fine.

We have also plastic wrapped the frame rails to keep the overspray off them from the future paint work.

Wow, that is nice!

Makes me want to spend the rest of the night in the garage working on my frame.

Are you going to paint the body for him?

That shine on the frame looks good. It might not look good when its dirty but sure looks nice now. I would think that shiny powder coat would wash off easy, but may get water spots, but who cares its the frame.

Keep up the good work

He is trying to talk me into at least "prepping" it for paint. I told him if I do, it will have to wait until I can get some other projects done that are now backing up like a bad sewer drain!

I will at least be prepping and painting the jams. The car was orange from the factory, but he prefers this blue color, so it will be blue again.

It does really look good, I must admit. The shinny finish will make it easier to clean in the future, as stuff does not stick to gloss as easy as flat type surfaces.

One thing that I have to remind everybody..or at least suggest you consider. It is easy to get carried away when you are at this point in your restoration and go into freak mode on making your frame look like a rolling piece of art. Please remember, that short of the lower portion of the rails, portions of the cross member, and upper engine bay rails....not much of it will ever be seen again when it goes back under the car.

I think one of my biggest disapointments building Killer was dropping the body back on, installing the big block, headers, and accesories, and noticing....I could no longer see my handy work on the frame!

This is why I think Powder Coating is over kill for the frame on this type of car. If you have access to it, and it is cheap, then go for it. The guy that owns this car has a wholesale deal with a local shop to get all of his work done for dirt cheap...so, everything gets powdercoated.

Just my .02.....

Great idea on toning it down.

What is really weird here, is the owner of this car wants it EXACTLY as you see it.

I have different taste in general. In fact, I did my 69 in the Eastwood products semi gloss chassis black.

I really like your idea for those that are going pure stock, but want it to really last a long time.

BTW--on my 69 I used a flexible wand and shot a waxy constantly creeping wet gooey rust prevention up each and every frame rail hole. Therefore, I coated it inside and out with protection.
