71 wiper motor and washer question.

Hello I have been a member just a few months and have found some great info. But now I can't seem to find this one. Will a three port washer pump replace a 5 port washer? I need to replace it but can only find 3 port washers. Any advice ?

Perhaps someone with direct knowledge will chime in.

Don't hold me to it ... but I believe a couple years (71 included) had option for headlamp washer and those require 5 port pump. Don't hold me to it, but I believe 3 port will retrofit (but it won't wash the headlamps). I also understand 5 port pumps are available ... but at quite a premium$ ... but dunno where.

Did you get the motor back in? ... and running?

The one-year-only 5-port pumps for 69's are rare as hen's teeth, were discontinued 25 years ago by GM, aren't reproduced, and bring upwards of $300 on eBay when they show up. The two extra ports are for the headlight washer solenoid connection. A 3-port pump will work fine - you just won't have headlight washers.

Thanks. Two of the outlets just loop to each other, doesnt go to headlights. I think I will go with the 3 port. Havent got the motor in yet. Should start on it tommorrow or Wednesday. Taking everything slow its my first vette, dont want to mess it up.
