I have a '72 that needed the master cylinder replaced. I replaced the cylinder but now have another problem -- the hood won't close completely. I bought this car from someone who had put a different hood on it, so it doesnt have the orginial, and he also put a new chrome master cylinder cover on it. In replacing the cylinder myself, I was not thinking and turned the chrome cover in along with the old cylinder for core. The lid/cover on the new cylinder seems to be too tall for the hood I have on the car now. I have been desparately searching for a new cover for the cylinder which needs to be a 3"x 5 5/8" and 1" or less in height. I have been unlucky so far. I have run out of resources and ideas. I would like to know if anyone knows where I may find such a master cylinder cover or if I need to see about replacing the hood that is currently on it with the orginial hood (which I do have) and hope that IT will close. ANY help and advice is GREATLY appreciated.

Chances are the person before you didn't take thiers and get it chromed, so its probably an aftermarket job. Go to NAPA and check on thier Mr.Gasket chrome covers. They show two, and one looks fairly thin, but dont know the exact dimensions. Part#'s are as follows..BK7354352 and BK7354353. The last one is more square looking, but flatter than the first. Hope it helps

Those numbers before were for NAPA , if you have a speed shop around you, Mr.Gasket list a chrome cover for corvettes as #5273. It says its 3" x 5 3/4", but doesn't say how thick. They make a #5271 thats GM, and its 3"x5 5/8", but again dont know how thick(or tall). I'd check #5271, 5272, 5273 for Mr.Gasket.

I coulden't imagine a cover keeping your hood from closing I have a crome cover & stock not enought difference there to create any problems ,I would guess wrong cylender did it look like the one you turned in.

Here is a pic of the correct one. with power brakes

one other thought nothing wrong with the master ,the hood release the part on the car drivers side did not rerurn all the way so it is holding the hood open .

The M/C cover shouldn't be causing this problem. Maybe wrong M/C that's too long? The difference between the PB and non is the piston bore. The PB M/C has an 1.125" bore. The outer dimensions are the same as far as I know.
