HEY, I GOT A 76 CHASSIS THAT I HAVE REBUILT FRAME , UP AND AM GOING TO INSTALL AN 82 COWLBACK, CAUSE I HAD A VERY RUSTED BIRDCAGE ON MY 76 PREFER THE NEWER BODY STYLE ANYHOW. , BUT ALREADY STARTED , THE FRAME , SUSPENSION, ECT ARE ALREADY COMPLETE AND WAS INSTALLING THE FUEL TANK FOR THE 82 AND FOUND THE STRAPS TOO SHORT,:confused SO WE FLIPPED THE FRAME CROSSMEMBER BRACKET OVER AND IT HELPED,:confused BUT STILL NOT RIGHT. HERE IS THE QUESTION, THE TANKS ARE DIFFERENT FOR A 76 AND AN 82, THEREFORE I AM NOW ASSUMING THE BOLT ON TANK SUPPORT BRACKETTHAT THE TANK SITS ON IS ALSO DIFFERENT? ad
The gas tank for a '78-'82 is different than a earlier model due to the fastback design. Never done this, but I would assume that you would need the later model hardware that goes with the later model tank. The rear frame sections are basically the same, so the later tank stuff should bolt right up.
