just purchased 76 L-82. HOOD WON'T OPEN . ANY SUGGESTIONS THANKS,JON

At the bottom of the windshield where the wipers are, there are two holes plugged with a rubber stopper - one hole on each side of the car. Take out the rubber stoppers and use a flat blade screwdriver to reach through the holes and trip open the hood latches. If the cable connecting the left and right latches is still intact, you should be able to open both at once by tripping the left (driver's side latch).

A month or two ago there was a thread that gave more specific details about exactly where the latch is and what direction to move the lever etc. If you use the search feature you should be able to find it. And I'm sure somebody who's car isn't currently in another state would be happy to snap a picture and post for you so you can see what you're aiming at.

The lever on the hood pushes forwards ,thats the best way to do it worst case cut the ok just kidding remove front grill and reach up with a open end wrench and lossen hood bolts not easy but doable then the hood will shimmy enought to open

I have a hard time uploading pics on this sight but I can e-mail you one of the latching asb...........75 stringray..

thanks for info, i got hood to raise enough on drivers side to reach in with wire hook & trip latches . the rubber plugs would have been easier. thanks, jon

So what would you have to do now? Adjust something for the latches, right? What would you do this and how? I think I might need to do this too. I'm getting a little tight, and it scares me. But I don't want her to fly open when I'm driving. :(

I use a silicone lubricant and (after covering sensitive areas before spraying) lube the cables that operate the levers that release the hood. Lightly grease the springs that the hood locks onto when closing using a light grease, being careful not to over do it. Finally, lube the hood cable inside while the hood is still open. You'll find that with some patience it will begin to work like new. Your hood will open and close properly. Good luck!

Hey Stallion,
Unless you are driving in reverse I dont think you have to worry about it opening on you. I opens backwards so the wind blast will keep it down.

I know, but every time I go to open and unlatch again, it seems to get harder and harder. I should just spray some WD-40 on the latches and get them all loobed up. I'm sure that's all I'll need.

WD40 is ok, but it doesn't seem to last very long and tends to run if you over do it. White Lithium grease in the spray form seems to last much longer and sticks to what you spray it on. I use it on the door hinges, too.
