OK it is time for tires. Can anyone confirm that going from the stock 225/60-15 to a 245/60-15 will be OK I do not really want them to rub. I think I read that 245-60's will fit just fine.

Also, my only options are Dunlop Qualifiers but I heard they wear quickly, or the trusty old BF Goodrich Radial T/A's if anyone has experience with either one I woul like to hear from you.

Thanks,
Scott

I have 245/60x15 on my 73. No problems at all, fit nice, and fill up the wheel well very nicely.

I like the BFG T/A Radials. Have them on one of the '73s, on my truck and have the BFG Comp T/A's on my 90 Vette. We are turning into a BFG T/A family :)

i have run both Dunlop and BFGoodrich, the BF's are far better tires. i am running 255/60/15 with no problems. you can even run 275/50/15's in the rear, a slight p-brake cable mount bending may be necessary to clear the inside of the tire, but it is no big deal. Brian

On my 75 I had, I ran 255/60/15 with no problems. BFG is my tire of choice for cars. Have dunlops off road type tires on my truck. Got 85,000 miles out of the last set. Yep 85,000. Cord wasn't even showing.:D Seriuosly, they lasted forever. I guess it helps that they were rotated every 3,000 miles. Classic

I have 245/60/15 Dunlop gt qualifiers that fit fine. I don't know how long they will last but I dont see any major wear problems.

The car came with Goodyear Eagle GT+4's in 255/60/15 and there's no problem at all. It's getting close to replacement time and I'll mostly likely go with more of the same.

PS - If I'm not mistaken, Dunlop is a French owned company. I won't even buy their tennis balls.

BFG's 225/60 front 255/60 rear Great handeling the more tire on back the more it bits the road for cornering, would even try one size bigger if I new it would fit.........:pat

So is BFG (BFG is owned by Michelin, a French company).

255/60-R15 Goodyear Eagle GTII's, for me :)

I agree 110% with you. I will not buy French products and give any support to them. :mad

I have 225 on the front and 255 on the back. Why would you want to go for a smaller tire size on the back? :confused

I had always thought that Dunlop was in Italy :) but was not sure so checked out their web page www.dunloptire.com and it does not say. But it does say that they are now a part of Goodyear :eek

Michelin is the French company and BFGoodrich Tires is a division of Michelin :(

Thanks for the info guys, it looks like i have some flexibility here but whay did you have to go and cloud the choice with the French origin thing? I cant support any stinking cheese weasel company no mattter how good the product might be.

Scott

BFG is my tire of choice, I have tried the other brand tire's and picked out BFG 255/50/15 in the front and 295/50/15 in the rear. I took off the emergency brake bracket's and in the way.
I just put some offset trailing arms with a VB&P performance plus chassis setup, what a differetn ride, I can adjust the ride gright to the rate of the spring, it really help my neck on the bumps. It ride's better than my 2001 Monty Pace Car..
Well that's the latest update also. Tires and rims next year.

Hmmmpphhh, I won't even buy FRENCH FRIES anymore!
Glad I did get my BF Goodrich's a while ago.
Boy, do they handle great. 255-60-15's on my '79, no clearance problems what-so-ever.
Tough looking and they work excellent.
But that will be my last set!!!!
Supporting America 100% is more important than good tires, to me.

I agree with you. America is #1. We are driving America's legends, I think it would only be right to put American tires on her. ;) At least not french ones.

I like the fact you guys are being patriotic, but if you think about it, our cars are not 100% American. most of the engine blocks are Mexican as are the electronics. a good portion of the cars are from Mexico, Canada, Korea and other countries. that is why i lean towards having the best parts availible to make the whole American package perform its best and put the best available image forward to the public. I doubt that 99% of people (even Corvette owners) can tell the difference between BFG's and Goodyears. I'll stick with American-made, when I reasonably have the option. If Goodyears blew out after 100 miles, and BFG's lasted 50k, of course I'd buy BFG's. But I think the difference in quality (if it exists at all) is small enough that I'll go for Goodyears.
