I have a 78 'vette.

When I turn the key, absolutely nothing happens. No lights, gauges or ignition.

I replaced the starter but still no go.

I exposed bare wire on the hot lead to the distributor and connected the positive lead from a battery charger and the negative lead to the engine block.
I got lights and gauges. When I turn the key, I hear a buzz from the starter. But it won't crank.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks!!

A very common problem such as yours is the ground wire itself. I have found many times, that the cable looks fine....but it get corroded on the inside of the plastic jacket. Check or change your ground cable, before you start thinking the worst.
