I need help in the correct way to remove the regulator on my drivers side door. Any pictures of the process would also help.

Thanks Bob, I was able to print the directions from your link but the pictures are too dark. I am going to go on Zips site to see if I can get a better picture of the asembly process.

They took the stuff off when they redid their site. A lot of good stuff just disappeared one day a couple of years ago. Let us know if it is back so I can link to it on my web page.

78 power window help

I have a magazine sitting on my car in the shop that has about a 4 or 5 page layout with pics of removing and then replacing windows in a C-3. The only problem is that I'm in Villahermosa,Tabasco, Mexico till Sat. afternoon. As soon as I get home I will post a reply with the mag. name and issue. It is either Corvette Fever or Vette I'm sure, just don't remember which issue! It's a good article, has a lot of photos to help dumb-a**es like me. (I always liked the books with pictures better!):D Art
Forgot to add----welcome to the CAC

Thanks Art, Hope you are enjoying Mexico. I am with you that without the pictures I'm kind of lost. Look forward to hearing from you when you get back.
Have a great one.

No problem! I can give you the mag. issue, fax the pages or scan them and E-mail them. Let me know which is best for you. For that matter, I could mail you the mag. and when you are done you could send it back to me. It will be a while before I need it. My car is down to a body sitting on a frame. Lots left to do before I get to that point!!! :beer

Thanks again Art. I you can scan them and E-Mail them to me it would be great. This site has been very helpful and great to read. This is my first vette even though I think all intelligent males are born with a vette gene. If you let me know the name and issue of the magazine I will try to locate a copy.

Thanks again. :beer

I can post the mag. name and issue early Sat. afternoon. As soon as I get home I'll look in the shop. I removed the windows and all associated hardware prior to painting to allow access to the mirror bolts and also to clean off 29 year old grease and re-lubricate the tracks and door latch assy. Also I needed a new driver's side window motor. I'm ready to go home and play with my toy. The 383 short block should get here in a week or two and I'm going to order the TPI system Monday, I hope. In about 5-6 weeks I should have a brandy new 425+HP stroker to dress up and get ready to install. OH BOY!!!

Its not that tough. Take the skin off. Note where the regulator is attached to the glass...you need to disconnect it from the glass. Wedge a piece of rubber between the door glass and frame to keep the glass up. Take the access panel off down by the motor.

If the regulator has never been out there should be 5 rivits holding the regulator in place. 3 by the motor and 2 midway up holding the regulator. You need to drill the heads off the rivits....just enough to pop the rivits...do not drill into the metal of the door or regulator. You will also need to replace the rivits with bolts and lock nuts when reinstalling...get a perfect fit in width and length for these bolts. Bolts should be of a very flat head type (used those new style alan key type myself.) on the outside and just long enough for the lock nut to catch it on the other side.

Using your power switch compress the regulator down. Its like folding a pair of open sissors so they can fit through a small hole. Once you have the regulator out disconnect the plug from it.

Not sure what your problem is. BUT the motors rarely go. Its usually the regulator spring that breaks...its a coil shape spring. If its broken you'll find it at the bottom of the door...cheap and easy to replace while the regulator is out.

I have had mine out on more then one occations. Its much easier then you think. Just go at it. Step by step and it will become clear.

The magazine in question is Corvette fever---January 2006. The article starts on page 56. It is 8 pages long so it might be difficult to E-mail, but I'll sent it maybe 2 pages at a time in 4 E-mails. You can print them and have the whole article. Either that, or my wife's hospital has a color copier and I can mail you copies of all the pages. Let me know your E-mail address via a pm and I'll send them on Monday morning. :beer
