78 vette differential removal

Taking rear end out for rebuild . Got everything loose but cross member that bolts to top of diff. cover will not
drop . Got bolt out of each end and can't see what else is holding it. Am I missing something or is it normally hard to break free ?

It's very hard to break loose. I've rented a Porta-Power to do it, but I suppose a long, wide pry bar and a lot of strength will do it. If you have pixie fingers and the right sockets or wrenches you may be able to remove the bolts which old the axle to the crossmember.

when you go back in dont forget to put a little water proff grease around them.

That's a good one. Borrowed the pry bar from my Dad, He's a die hard Ford man. Now I can tell him I know why he keeps it around. He's got a nice '51 Ford with the original flat head V-8, runs like a top.

I always apply anti-seize to the upper shell of the bushing before re-installing the crossmember to the "sombreros"; if it has to come out again years down the road, it'll fall out by itself.
