Has anyone tried the duels bent just for the 80 - 82's from Mid America? I was going to replace the crossmember to a 79 with the holes for the exhaust, but these look very nice... I would love to know how they fit
part # 603-862 for 80-81's
part # 630-866 for 82's
Tweek- I installed them on my car. They are great. I'll drive by and show you them if you'd like. Very easy to install. Combine with Flowmaster 40 series and you are ready to rumble.
The only mod I had to do was the hangers that came with it or I bought them, anyway the 80 has one big hanger. I had to cut down the rubber real short in order to get the proper ground to exhaust height.
you could make one big hanger or go with the two.
That's all I can think of that I did to it.
Do they use the same hangers? I do have a set of Targa pipes to put on them, I do have them on the car now, and love the sound. With the true duels it would be even better.
Dave it would be great to take a peek at your exhaust
Took the 80 in for PA. inspection and my man said they are gonna start the VISUAL CHECK on the emissions crap within the year. Just a quick look to see if ya have the cats and so on.Now what are we to do? He is pretty good about stuff so I can probably get by for a while.Anyone in PA have the scoop on this ?
Can you say "Classic Tags". Your eligible for classic tags, get'um. Unless your car has antique or classic then you will need a convertor or you will not pass state inspection beginning in December.
3 things I should add...
A new criteria for PA classic tags is the car must have the factory wheels. You will be required to provide photos.
If you use car year round as a daily driver you can not get classic tags.I think the mileage restriction is 5000.
Once you have classic tags(about $100)you don't have to send Penn DOT a renewal check for your plate every year.
Weird this came up on this thread... I just went to Hbg. last Fri. and got my classic tags, for this excact reason.
They cost 100.00, needed 4 pictures, and that was all they told me, the process took longer to park than it did to get the tag!
Another note on sniffer test in Pa. I read the note the state sent my inspection guy advising him to wait to get any equip. for this till the state comes up with some form on standards on what equipment would be reccomended for them to purchase, and the readings the equipment should be putting out. Looks to be very UN- organized still, I have my doubts it will happen as soon as they said, but, it is coming
Paul- definite power increase 30+ hp. Its the best 'out of the box' modification I can think of for power increase from stock. As far as emissions go,I can't comment since we have no sniffer tests here and my car is exempt anyway.

Hi there,
I need some help in this department,I have no cats on my 81,would like Classic tag.
Pictures,what part of the car?
Do I have to drive Vette to DMV? I hate driving to harrisburg.
My inspection/emissions.. soon.. end of November this year, would like Classic tag before that time.
Help
Pictures of the exterior only. Front, rear and both sides. You don't have to drive the vette over. It's a piece of cake getting into and out of Penn DOT these days. It's not like the old days when it was down town.
Kix81, Dave's right the DMV is so easy now, also your tags are good for 5 years! If you need assistance with the emissions sticker, the garage I go to does them for 20.00 if I go with, its around Mechanicsburg.
I feel that those MAM exhausts are junk, just look at it. The pipes are not even close to the same length, they are not mandrel bent, they're probably cheap aluminized steel pipe,...
Why not get an older style crossmember, it's very easy to make it fit your car. All you have to do is tweek the part where the through bolt goes through. Just a slit on both sides, a little bending upward and welding it shut and you're in business. I did the same thing (and a lot of other modificating like trans mount and the exhaust holes are spaced further apart for a straight shot backwards)
see:
On the stock 80-82 crossmember the through bolt goes in a tad higher than on the older cars, it's the only mod needed. the bolts that go into the frame rail will bolt right up.
Thanks Tweek, I did not know Classic tags were good for five years, that's great!
I will have to meet up with you at the fair grionds this week. My car will be parked in the NCRS area, front plate on Vette says KIX, look for me there.
I may need the garage in Mechanicsburg you go to, that will be a big help.
Thanks again Ron,
See you at the show.
