need help ,drove down the street my alternator light and igniton light came on my volt meter drops dead and my tack goes high . the faster i rev the stonger the lights . when i got home i started it up no alt or igniton lights on but tack running high and volt meter dead but the min i give it gas the lights come on . so i presumed its was my alternator and put another one on there. but same thing happened ,but this time the ign and alt light stayed on from the start . i thought about voltage regulator but thats built in the alternator . any help would be appreciated , thanks.

I had a '78 that had an issue like that. Turned out to be a bad connection at the extension harness that runs to the starter... on the back of the engine... behind the distributor. There is a wire (unsure of PIN OUT) that runs from the starter to the alternator. If you don't have a good contact- you don't get a good charge.

Check that and your grounds.

Good luck!
