Question: 81 door panels

I just got my red on red 4/speed L81
I need to take the passenger door panel off ;help(door does not unlock). I would like to know how many screws and clips, where they are and do I need a special tool.

As I remember, there are three screws in the door handle, the lock knob, the screw in the door opening lever trim, the two screws in the mirror adjuster trim, one or two screws in the carpeted area and a screw near the top rear edge. After that, just lift it up an inch or so and pull out, no special tools. These doors are some of the easiest to get into you will find (I guess GM wanted to make up for the heater core thing).

Simple job no problem. Would like to know what is wrong with the mechanisme because it doesn't lock. Good luck!

The door will lock but does not want to unlock by pulling the button or with the key. I think there is a spring in there and it may have broken or come off I will let you know when I get it apart, maybe this weekend.

there are 3(?)Rods that are connected to the door lock motor.there is one near the door lock motor that is a real PIA.

Yep. Power locks were optional. My 80 does not have power locks, but the actuators are mounted in the doors. I could add the option by getting the switches, rods, and harness.
