The rearend on my 81 is leaning on the passenger side. It has the figerglass monoleaf spring (stock from what I can tell). I've noticed some freying (sp?) on the top of the monospring on the drivers side. I'm taking a guess that this is my problem, but I also want to know if I should look at anything else that would be cause the rearend to lean.

Thanks,
William

Mine lean slightly to the drivers side. I happened to be checking under the rear of the car for something when, I noticed the mono-spring shattered on top on the drivers side.

Have replaced it with one from Mid-America and now it sits level. It was very simple to replace. Spent more time trying to find a place for jackstands!

The only thing to watch out for is the two aluminum brackets that clamp it to the rear end. The new spring had thicker rubber bushings than the factory one. There are shims you can remove to keep from cracking the brackets when you torque the bolts down.

The trip to the Corvette wrecking yard to get another bracket (I cracked one) was a sad one, seeing all the fine vehicles tore up but, I did manage to find several other items I needed.

Good Luck

Don

Frayed fiberglas means cracked spring. Don't let it go too long, a broken spring will mess up your wheelwells big time.

This problem comes up on late model C3's more often than not. I fixed the problem with a new 330 monospring and some KYB's from VBP some years ago.

Good Luck.......... OBW

Glad to hear you got it under control bro..fraying not a good thing with rear springs..by the way..stop giving the PHAT GURLS rides home..since it was leaning on the passenger side..was my first thought..picture this:
