Here is a tad-bit of information

Here is a little information I have about the St. Louis 1981 Corvette Manufacture Plant. These VIN's are specific to the St. Louis Plant.

The FIRST set of numbers are the production start VIN's.
The SECOND set of numbers are the Trim Tag Code.
The THIRD set of numbers are the Production Start Date.
The FOURTH set of numbers are the production stop VIN's.

Example of my L81: VIN ****S41940*; Trim Tag: G09. Reference to the above chart shows that Rare81 was BORN February 9, 1981. These are St. Louis built VIN's.. St. Louis is indicated by the S while Bowling Green is indicated with a 5.

Production figures vary from a low of 93 units a day in February 1981, to a high of 163 units a day in August 1981.

I’m not sure about the VIN of the LAST Corvette built at St. Louis.

I haven't done any research into this in over two years, so this is all the infomation I could find in my files. I don't recall haveing information like this from Bowling Green L81's

Interesting

So Bud,

If I figure that the VIN in my car corresponds with the production start of 2 february 1980, and the difference between my VIN number and the VIN production start day is less than 93, then my car was born on the 2nd of February?

Gerry

Gerry,

The production started in February 1981 on the 2nd, thus the G02 . To be BORN on February 2 you would have a "Trim Code Tag" of G02 and VIN somewhere between 418514 and 417322 plus or minus a few numbers ;) would be my best guess.

I don't think I have ever figured out the birthdate of my wife's '81 I do know that she took delivery of it in Oct. of '80. I'll have to look when I get home.

VIN Production dates

I think I understand. In the case of Gale, she shows a G10 on her trim tag. Therefore, she was born on 10 Feb 1981? Right?

Gerry

;) you got it Gerry :cool

Wicked Cool!!

Hey thats great Guy..................my baby was born March 10, 1981.
I guess we better be celebrating tomorrow:beer :birth

Guy I don't know about that site??? it says Rare was Born in August of 1980 :confused.. it doesn't ask for the trim code, just vin.. from what I've been able to find, the three digit with the alpha start indicates build dates..

I'll email the site and ask :confused

Thanks alot Guy.. just what I need another project :J :L :L ;)

ROFLMAO.... guess I should have read all the instructions first... LOL.. it says to put in the LAST 5 charactors of my VIN... Now it comes up with February 10th, 1981.. the trim tag has G09 which indicates February 9th.. very close. Actually the trim tag is one of the last things they put on, so mine could have been sitting on the line the morning of the 10th.. anything is possible.. :D

Thanks Guy.. I'll mark this project off my list.. whew.. one down, now to the honey dooooooo list ;)

ggaagg57 yours is the Oldest L81 I've seen still out here ;)

The first customer order release that I'm aware of was 400114, anything older I would guess was a "Assembly Pilot Car". Just by chance does your have all the options on it? and I would bet it was actually built before August 22 ;)

Thanks for sharing your infomation. Way :cool you may have the Queen L81 (as in the Queen Mum) ;)

NCRS CALCULATOR

Bud,

I think that you may have a point on the calculation web site. I tried mine, and it says 11 Feb 1981, but as I mentioned before the trim tag has a G10 stamped on it.

And I suppose that a production number gets assigned at the beggining of the assembly as opposed to at the end of it. So maybe the web site calculator is off by 1 day.

Gerry ;)

no power mirror. one of the things i like the most,i wish it did, its got 86000 on it now .no glass top don't know if it did at one time. but it is super clean car black on black.

Well the L81 figures to be an October 13 build. I wonder if that was Friday.

Thanks Dale. I was hoping thet it wasn't a Friday the 13th car.

where did they put build sheets on 81s.I've seen them on backs of seats on some cars. sorry about getting off the subject.
