82 ecm codes / problems

after waiting for almost 17 years , i finally got what i've been waiting for . I found an '82 sitting around a guys yard with only 84 ,000 on it . After fixing a few minor probs , the check engine light comes on for a few seconds and then goes off this happens the whole time you drive it . The car was doing this when I 1st brought it home . Question is , I went to check the codes and it would not even give me a flash of 12 saying it was fixing to start the test...The engine light came on and stayed on. Anyone else ever have this prob ??

Put a paper clip between terminals A&B in the ALDL connector. The connector is UNDER the ashtray (remove the ashtray to gain access to it.) Here's a pic:

Once you put the paper clip in, it should flash the code, i.e. for a code 42, it will flash

blink, blink, blink, blink... pause
blink, blink, pause
pause


(four flashes, then two flashes.)

It will repeat whatever codes it has stored - find them out and post them here.
