I have a problem with my '82. It occassionally will not start after being driven for a while set for 2-5 minutes and no start. I have replaced the starter solenoid with a high temp unit, bypassed the alarm starter relay, replaced the starter switch.
I noticed yesterday when it happened again that I only had 9 volts on the purple wire going down to the solenoid. After waiting 30 minutes it would start again and had 11 volts on this wire. (red wire coming from alternator/battery is 12.5 volts) (If I jumper 12 volts to the purple wire when this happens it will start quickly so I think this rules out a starter problem.

Has any one else had this problem?
Thanks for any advice

Look for a bad ground. I had a 82CE with what sounds like the same problem. I ran a ground strap from the engine (bellhousing), to the frame and it went away.:beer :w

Could be a faulty ground, could be a broken connection inside the wire itself.
I had my camaro do this and I put a heat shield on the soliend and then grounded it.
Never happened again. Your droppage in voltage sounds like a bad connection though sense your volts drop the current could be overloading the faulty wiring.
