I got a leak from the oil pan and was trying to figure out a way of replacing it with out removing the engine? Has anyone done this, if so what was your secret? This is my first Vette and I am learning as I go on this restore.

You don't remove the engine.

Remove the bolts holding the idler arm to the chassis then pull the steering linkage down.

Remove the starter then remove the pan.

If you bought a 1982 Factory Service Manual, you'd have all the information you need. You can buy them from MidAmerica and Corvette Central.

Thanks for the info, I will look into the Service Manual.

Do you have to remove the starter on an 82 to remove the oil pan? Just curious...

Nope. It also helps to turn the crank so the timing index line on the balancer is at 5 o'clock (as viewed from the front); that gets the front counterweight up out of the way and gives more clearance to the front crossmember to remove the pan. :)

Both John and Hib are correct, I just changed mine out and using the Service Manual you drop the linkage and change the Pan Gasket out.

Thanks all for the great info, should make the job easy now, I was thinking about pulling the engine, now I don't.

I didn't think it was quite so easy getting back on by yourself.

It is a fairly easy job to replace the oil pan gasket. Just do what Hib said. I used a one piece gasket as a replacement, torqued all the bolts carefully and have not had a leak.

I got the Assembly book and the service manual and service manual said exactly what they did, except the removing the starter thing. The Assembly manual is a great source for restoring, shows all the details.
