Can anyone help me out? My 4spd overdrive was working fine then it would not kick in rite away with the switch on . Now it wont go into overdrive at all. Should there be power at the switch with the key on, or is the switch a ground switch, ground on ,ground off, to activate the one wire solenoid on the overdrive unit. If there is no power at the switch what would be the next thing to check, fuses are all good?? Thank you

I do not have an 84 shop manual

Lemme look @ the Haynes book to see IF I can shed some light.

If the OD light on the dash is not coming on, I suspect the OD relay mounted next to the brake master cylinder. Mine was doing exactly the same thing, would work sometimes, and then quit all together. It's like an $18 dollar part from the Dealer. I mean that realy is now 19 years old...probably finally wore out.

Good Luck!! :beer

thank you for your help, I did check out the relay by using the fuel pump relay(same part) the light still did not come on and because the car ran I know that relay is good. On the trans. there is a one wire plug to what looks like a sending unit, called the overdrive solenoid, that wire is grounded all the time switch and key on or off. the switch on the console has grond (green wire) all the time, when switch is on black wire also has ground?. Can anyone tell me where to look to get wiring drawing for my 84 on the net? My books are to vague. Again I thank all of you for the help.
