I have been going through everything and have a couple more interior questions about my 84 and just a reminder, this is my first corvette so I may be asking stupid questions;
1) When I turned on the lights last night, the knob came off and I'm trying to figure out if it is broken or if I just need to figure out how it goes back on. At this point, there is a shaft with a triangular metal clip that fits into the back of the knob -it will slide back on, but won't stay, is there a tab or something that needs to be adjusted?
2) The interior courtesy lights all work when I rotate the light knob, but they won't come on when the doors are openned -is there a switch override somewhere that is shut off? The under hood lights also didn't come on when I was working under the hood -is this related to the interior cortesy lights?
3) The horn won't work -I have not started looking at this yet, but are there any common problems that I should look at first?
The hood release surround is hanging down and there is nothing above the single screw hole -it there a plasic tab broken off, or is there one of those metal screw clips missing?

Thanks in advance, Glen

See if the inside of the knob is cracked. If so, a new knob is needed or in worst case you can put a drop of adhesive in it to get you by. It will make it hard to remove if you need it off though.
Check the door switches for the int. lamps. Underhood lamps have a plug in the front of the fenderwell at the bottom of the hood, a black two wire connector. A lot of people unplug these to keep the battery from discharging. I found mine disconnected when I bought it.
Run a jumper wire to the horns from the battery and touch it to the terminal connector on the horn. This will at least tell you if the horn is bad or not.
Not sure about the hood release escutcheon. I haven't had this problem (YET!)
Hope this helps and enjoy the Vette. I also have an 84. And, don't forget to wave!:w

:wThanks for the response, I'll look at this stuff tonight.
My car is also a Z51 4+3 -it looks like these are a little rare out of the total production. So far I really love this car, it runs great, it sounds great and there is nothing like shifting a 4 speed!

I have a stinkin automatic:eyerole
