After my 84 has warmed up in the morning, (10 minutes or so) I place the car in reverse and all is fine, when I place the in car in drive there is about a 3-4 second delay before it moves forward. Its been like this since I bought it in April. When I drive the tranny shifts okay. Any thoughts?

Sounds like the trans is getting a bit worn. Any other symptoms?

You might try a full service on it. Maybe the filter is getting plugged and it is taking a while for the fluid pressure to be where it should be when the fluid is cold (thicker) and trying to get through the valve body.

In the same regard, if you service a trans that has not had service for a long, long time...you can often cause it to fail. This is more common in older ford transmissions, but can happen.

Sounds like you are headed for trans repairs anyway, so a good service and filter can't hurt.

Thank you, I should also mention when I drive the car normal, which is 99 percent of the time the tranny is fine, but when I punch it from a dead stop, at about 40 MPH the tranny sounds like it is slipping. There is actually a dead spot, if you will for a second or so before it grabs and takes off again.
This only happens when I punch it, under normal conditions its fine.
