My 1985 just failed emissions in Massachusetts. It failed in Nox. everything else was within specs, but close. Anyone care to comment or tell me a mechanic in the Berkshire county area whose is competent?

That's usually the first thing I would look at. Not only will a good tune up get you lower emissions, it'll improve the smoothness of your ride and the gas mileage should go up.
