I Have an 85 coupe, Seems like it runs around 200-225 and its not even summer yet... is this normal? seems like the fan kicks on around 220 or so.

Sounds about right for stock. My '87 would consistently run those temps or higher...with the fan set to come on around 230. I had a switch put on that triggers the fan at 190. Just drove it last week and with temp of 50 outside the car ran right around 190, with the fans on when I pulled in the garage.

Yup. Stock temperatures set for economy and emissions reasons.

Try searching the forum to find a LOT on this.

check my post of 1-07-04. BTW, I am putting in a lower thermostat and hypertech chip.

Best regards,
Gerry

That seems rather warm for winter, those are normal summer temps.
Fan is set to activate at 228F, aux at 238F. Your in-dash readout is a couple degrees off.

I would make no changes until summer.

With a completely stock system I am running 180°. And this is with a stock 195° thermostat. Flush the system till you get clean water through, then refill with 50\50 distilled water and antifreeze (green) I also added water wetter. As it is warming up it will go to 195-200° as the stat opens then down to 180°, in traffic on occasion it will climb to 200° but never much higher even in the summer. Remember to remove the radiator sometime during the flush sequence to clean and remove all junk in the cavity. It makes a big difference.
