Can't say much more than that other than having to help by pulling them up when cloing. I never push then down.

But man are they slow.

Any corrective suggestions?

I am very new to the forum, so please let me knowif out of line.

Bob,

First of all, welcome to the Corvette Action Center!!! Out of line? Not at all!:)

I would say that maybe the power window motors need to be replaced?? That has happened to us on one or two Corvettes over the years.

So you think its the motors and not just binding up in the tracks or something?

Can they be just taken out and cleaned or something then put back in?

Did you replace them yourself? Just the motors or the whole assembly?

Thanks,
Bob

Bob, I agree!

Vette windows usually operate faster than any other windows. :D

With new motors, your windows will fly up OR down! :upthumbs

Just the motors have to be replaced.

Mine are really slow in winter, but operate good in the summer. My theory is that in a worn electric motor like a window motor, the armature contracts a very small amount and so do the springs in the brushes due to the cold. Creates a gap that does not allow the motor to operate as it should.

Does this make sense to anyone???

The shortcut above states that's only up untill the mid '86 type that it wasn't really good. After that it apparently was??? Mine is a '89 but is still very slooow.. will that be worn motors?

They early C4 models all had very slow windows. The belts were a wierd design that didnt move them fast. Your motor is fine. I should time mine to see how long they take. I had a vette specialist look at my windows and he told me it was normal. Unless some one has come up with an aftermarket solution, you just have to deal with it.

The windows on my 85 are slow as well. They work fine but I have to anticipate the weather here in the Northwest to make sure I get them up in time!

More than likely the motor is tired but you can get some life back by cleaning the track, my driver side window would hardly close, I cleaned the track and rail (that had a lot of hardened grease). Cleaning (real clean) and using new white grease the window is working much better.

Slow '84 and '85 Windows

The power window mechanisms in the '84 & '85 use a plastic belt drive. The '86 was completely re-designed. Cleaning the hardened and dirty old grease off the sliding parts and lubing with white grease makes a huge improvement. Try this before spending the big bucks to upgrade to the '86-'96 style mechanisms.
