My 86 witn an automatic and 60,000 miles has started leaking (beltching) transmission fluid. It appears to be coming out of the dip stick - fill tube when it is first fired up after setting for a week or so. There is a plastic wire loom that runs next to the tube and it is soaked. The fluid runs down the loom and then drips on the pre converter shield and burns/smokes very badly. It appears to stop after a short time but there is then enough fluid on the preconverter shield to burn/smoke for quite a while.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Thanks. I checked at the base of the tube and the fluid is not leaking there. It only happens after the car has set for a week. I think it is coming out the top of the tube. I should have also said that the car is running great. This just started happening about a month ago. I started it yesteday after about a week and it leeked fluid, about 1/4 of a cup. I started it up tonight after it sat for the day and no leak. There is a wire loom that runs buy the tube at about valve cover height or a little lower and yesterday after starting it was covered in tranny fluid.

That's right. The level is right on the mark. I just got back from driving it again and no leak.

Thanks
