'84 hood is unique
The 84 hood is different from 85+?
It sure is, b/c it has squarish ducts that fed cold air to the TBI manifold; those ducts also serving as stiffeners. Fitted onto the hood-side openings are rubber gaskets that seal to the intakes of the air cleaner. I have been considering how I might modify that ducting to feed cold air to the engine from the opening in those ducts, just forward of the radiator. It pulls cold air from the snout.
The other issue I have is, despite having the intake ducting for the '85+, including the air cleaner, that hood ducting quashes it, so the stock cleaner cannot be used. The conical K&N I use, sucks increasingly hot air, fed from (temporarily) behind the radiator, and the power loss when it all heats up, is quite noticeable.
Understand, this does not shorten the first gear, twin black tire streaks it can leave :booty, it just 'feels' slower in the upper gears.
I just wish this hood was in more demand, so I could trade it even for an equally pristine, white, later hood.
Thanks again, Rich.
