Hello All, I know some of you are waiting to hear about the Callaway I WAS planning on purchasing, the 100+ 88 car. The day after Carlisle I flew out to South Dakota to finalize the purchase. I checked the car out-everything was pretty much as the broker stated. Then it came time to test drive- the car would not run! The top end was noisey, it was stuck in third gear (auto) and just coughed and sputtered, this was at any rpm\speed range. The car would not go over 100mph. This Callaway would not turn the tires over at all :cry ! Of course the OWNER and the broker told me the car worked as it should while I was talking to them on the phone. I looked over at the broker and he said he thought it was "a little down on power". At that point I couldn't trust them and I didn't have time to troubleshoot so I walked on the deal. The broker tried to get me to purchase sight unseen, thank God I don't listen to brokers! So here I am still looking for another toy!:v -Joe

I have bought some cars sight unseen, and it's like gambling, sometimes you get lucky and sometimes you don't. I have learned the what I consider to be correct may not exactly be the same as the other person. You did good. But that car may still be a good deal once the problem is diagnosed correctly and the price adjusted accordingly.

8388, I have to agree -it would have been a good deal IF it was running half decent. The paint on the car was terrible-which I knew about... It was rock blasted (down to the fiber glass) on all four corners, the rear facia had a huge area that looked like it got attacked by a brillo pad (he didn't tell me about that), it had been buffed by a rookie and the leading edge of the drivers rear quarter panel was down to the fiber glass (he didn't tell me about that). It also had bolts missing from different areas...the oil had to be 5 years old, the discharge tube flange on the pass turbo was cracked, and the diff was dripping. It also was not street legal, and I possibly would have had to put a TPI setup on it and add a EGR tube to the exhaust manifold (have to remove the manifold to do it), and add some cats to pass any emission tests. Which I was prepared to do. It was destined to be a driver for me as it was never going to be a collector or show car. I offered to still purchase at the agreed price if they paid the difference in shipping to Callaways shop- which would not have been more than 500 bucks and they paid to have it repaired properly. The owner didn't want to do that, said "it would cost him to much". So I think they thought it had some expensive troubles. I just hope whoever purchases this car is aware of it's problems. I was very much looking forward to owning this car, but I'm over it now and looking forward to my next fun ride!!!!!:Steer

Here is the kicker- IF they would have told me how poorly the car was running I would have planned on staying for a day or 2 to troubleshoot the problem, but they never gave me the chance. I planned for enough time to check the car out for purchase not to troubleshoot\ repair. By the time I checked it out and drove it I had to leave. It probably doesn't have anything terribly wrong with it and could be diagnosed and repaired with a little time and tools. That's what upset me about this deal. But at this point I'm not about to spend another 1,000 bucks for travel, hotel, time off work...... to revisit the car. It's gone that's it. :( :cry I will find a better deal down the road!!!!!

Sounds like these folks had to have known about the problem or should I say problems, and should have been honest from the start. It's a shame, that they cost you time and expenses just to find out. Someone that holds out or misleads with false information, should never be allowed to sell a car, or at the very least exposed for what they are.

On the bright side, I believe that things happen for a reason, and the right car is waiting for you. :beer

Is there any precedent anywhere by which a seller misrepresents facts and the potential buyer is reimbursed for expenses? Time to do it on this one!

I purchased my Callaway sight unseen, but a few guys had checked the car out and said it was a good car. Also the dealer (Rogers Corvette) has an excellent reputation. I did have some problems when the car arrived:puke But Roger took care of the problems and I would buy from him again site unseen.

While driving the car I told the broker I expected to be reimbursed for my travel expenses and he said he was sure the owner would make it right. I've spoken twice to the broker and left a detailed message (very nice) to the owner since returning. I haven't heard from the owner and the broker is giving me the run around. Since the owner wasn't about to pay the cost of having the car repaired at Callaway, I seriously doubt I'll be reimbursed. But I'm going to keep calling the owner until I speak with him. While this deal has been a little bitter, I have purchased over 30 vehicles and most of the deals go just fine. When playing this game your bound to get tackled every once in a while. It's no biggie and I do believe that things happen for a reason!

Keep the faith Joe :hb

Good thing you know all about these cars - I cannot believe the vaccuum line was unhooked and the car ran worse w/ it ct'd :eek

Chris, Before I start looking at an AeroBody car you need to come by with yours to see if it will go up my driveway. I guess I could always drop the garage floor a couple of feet;) I would still like to see the info on the car. Thanks

Joe, maybe Friday night??? After work???

I may go out to Dulles and if so, I would drive the SNAT out - it actually sits a bit lower than the B2K due to the Coilovers.
...let me know if you want that # in the meantime :m

Friday would be good... except Isabel is making a b-line for my house. She should be knocking on my door sometime Friday unless she makes a turn for the better! Let's pencil it in and see what happens. You can call or email the car info at your convenience. BTW.... do you have a boat?:L
