the top door panel trim piece (next to window) on my 88 is in good shape (even the air vents) but the rear mounting pin has snapped off and is only about 3/4"-1" long. It appears to reach the hole in the door itself but what ever it attaches to is gone. Without spending $90 on a new trim piece(s) is there a less costly way to repair and secure the back of the trim panel? The hole the pin fits in appears to be slightly tear-dropped shaped rather thern perfectly round, but that could be wear. I also hope not to have to remove the entire door panel. i need the "pros from Dover" 'cause i'm all out of ideas!

Just lift it slightly and use Black RTV (Silicone).

If it's like my '89 it plugs into a metal snap clip. More than likey it is sitting at the very bottom of your door right about now along with others. You can buy the whole bag of clips for the C4 from your dealer or Auto Zone has individual clips. You just need to find out which one. I'd take the panel off and inspect. Ya might need more than one......the panel isn't all that hard to remove and replace...

I'm with Brookman on this one. Did the same thing on my 88 only I used clear rather than black RTV to hold it down. I did take the inner door panel off and couldn't find the clips.

thanks guys for the suggestions. RTV certainly seems to be the quick and most painless solution.

I have the same type problem with with my 88.

I tried velcro and glue, they did't work.

Excuse my ignorance, but "What" is RTV tape

RTV isn't tape but like caulk. There are several different types each represented by a different color and come in tubes. I can't remember all of them. I believe some (at least the clear I used) are silicone based. You can find it at most hardware stores, Walmart and auto parts stores like Autozone.

I put some on the nub left of the stud that held down my top door trim, taped it down and let it set for a while. A couple hours later all was well. 2 years and no problem yet.

Actually "RTV" stands for "Room Temperature Vulcanization". RTV is silicone.

BTW, I used some 3" stainless screws (painted the heads black with black trim paint) through the top of the door trim to keep mine from popping off every time I closed the door.

Good luck!

Mike.
