i looked at a couple of wiring diagrams but can't locate the groung for my cluster. my problem is intermittent lights dim and the highbeam and signals stay lit. any help would be great, thanks!

All I know is that there is only one.

Is comes from the lower panel relaying to the upper via the pins. One of my pins were fryed so I soldered a wire from the lower circut to the upper then to the wire connection....works like a charm.

It takes a little tracing with a multimeter and a test light to find.

Actually there are two grounds for the cluster. In the 32 pin connector, D1 (solid blk) and D3 (Black w/white stripe) are both grounds.

D1 goes from the connector to the ground screw on the driver's door pillar. It is behind the kick panel, but it is at the top of it and can be reached without removing the kick panel. This ground is usually NOT the problem.

D3 goes to the amibent override sensor under the left dash, through the bulkhead connector, then to ground on the left rear of the engine. The amibent override sensor's purpose was to insure the cluster lit in very cold weather so no need for that.

If this ground, D3, is bad your high beam and directional lights come on dim and the cluster will not light.

Easiest fix is to remove the cluster and splice/solder the D3 wire and the D1 wire to a NEW wire. Then run the new wire to the door pillar ground screw. This insures you have two good solid grounds to your cluster.

If that doesn't fix it, and I bet it will, then you need to have your cluster rebuild.

I know this because I been there, done that and got the T-shirt........... :J

Good Luck... :beer

Let us know how it turns out.........
