You done with that carpet yet? I'll come over this weekend with my welder to help you finish the job. You want flux core or stainless steel wire?

Talk to you soon. BTW, 24" on the ground in the scenic middle of the state.

Heh..

All kidding aside.. I could use the help with this project.... Got ****ed off and stoped the install at the driver side rear piece. I quit at the upper half. Having a real hard time getting it to lay up over the tire well smoothly. And the passenger side piece is a real pain..!!:mad The 65 has the Rear blower section their and getting the carpet to lay around that vent area sucks..!:mad

I was going to put the carpet in without the blower since I'm not installing one ....but shaping it to fit sucks.!!:mad

I ordered the card board Blower Cover and might just install that so I don't have to deal with trying to shape the carpet in that area without the Cover.

....HELP....!!!!!!!!! So if your available come on over.. If not.. I'll see if John Lolli can help... John....HELP...!!!

I Suck as a Carpet Installer... Maybe I need some Crack...!!!!:mad

Mark -- we are supposed to go look at an 81 saturday morning, If for some reason that is cancelled I will be there with the plasma cutter and the big mallet. We'll fix that rug !!

Great,
I'll wait to hear from you Friday Night... Another option I have is to glue down potting soil in the rear area of the Cp and grow some grass..!!

Mark
I know your frustration. When i was helping Andy with his '79's carpet replacement the rear cargo area tire well sections were one of the most difficult to get the carpet to lay down correctly. A real PITA!! :eek

Mark..we should be there this weekend. Looks like it will rain anyway. OK, I'll talk to my management...see which day looks best.

You could just fill the offending areas with body filler. :gap

Don't think I haven't Thought about it..:cry

in a few areas on Andy's carpet where it wouldn't lay perfectly flat around a curve or contour we ended up having to slice the carpet carfully where it was "bunched up" to allow it to lay flat. After putting a slice in the carpet we would overlap one side over the other so it laid flat. Than with another slice thru both layers where it overlapped we could cut away the excess and end up with the "bottom" layer of the overlap pieces perfectly butted against each other making the cut nearly invisible.
This is most likely what you may need to do in one or two areas.

Enjoy yourselves but it ain't the most fun job!

Everytime I think about the new '78 I just bought I say thanks that the carpet is in overall pretty good condition because I'd dread having to go thru a carpet replacement again, especially so soon! Twice in one winter would be the pits!

Barry,

Wait till I tell Linda you have mastered the basics of wallpapering! :L

Thanks Barry,

But Like you with the Carb Guy.... This Crap should fit without being cut..!!
It does seem to be molded and made correctly.. but it just doesn't like to lay that way after you apply the glue.

You know what...It's me...This is not my Forte...I can Vacuum the S _ _T but I can't lay it..:L

Terry, don't you DARE tell her that! She has already mentioned a few of the wallpapers here in the house she'd like to replace...........

actually, i learned that trick years ago while in the car audio industry. We would have to lay down carpet, spearer grill fabrics, etc a lot and especially when covering and wrapping sub boxes and custom panels this is how we had to do it to make it look nice.

Mark, I agree but what SHOULD BE and WHAT IS usually turn out to be two very different things.
I'd be very surprised if anyone can lay down a replacement carpet set and not do any cutting. i think the only differences from one piece of carpet to another is only how much cutting and trimming is required.

Besides, I don't care how good the company is that makes the carpet, even Al Knoch......... it's still REPRO carpet and we all have learned how well repro parts fit! ;LOL

Mark....

Hello....Here is a link on Barry's website of the carpet job we did on my Greenwood in November and December last year. We did much work to the interior of the car, new seats, new carpet....New Sony Xplode front speakers and a host of smaller items.

One of the most nerve wracking was cutting off the old carpet on the door panels..What a chore......That PALED in comparison with the rear of the C3. The front of the car went so darn fast, I think Barry and I and my son Alex got a bit cocky....The back sure brought us down a notch or two.

I would NOT want to do this for a living, But I guess we figure out the tricks of the trade. I as well purchased my carpet from Wally/Al Knoch...

I think I spent about $75.00 on the glue...I initially had no idea the 3M Spray cost sooo much, but it was well worth the $$ spent. The entire interior restoration carpet, seats, speakers, door panel repairs ran me about $1,000.00 Which in my eye was money well spent.

Regards,

Andy

Andy,

I noticed you changed the white carpet to black. I thought you were trying to keep your car all original? :D:D :D :D :D

Terry, I think the only thing still original on Andy's '79 are the guages and the shifter, maybe the glass too...... :D

Yuk it up guys....Love it. though...

since only 5 ORIGINAL Greenwood Daytonas exist, and mine's not one (but I am trying to buy one of the 5), i am just making it JUST THE WAY I WANT.

My new side "shark" emblems will go on soon. Here's what one will look like. I just taped it over the cross flags to get an idea of how it will look. It is an exact REPLICA of the Bill Mitchell designed Mako Shark /MANTA RAY prototype car! I had these made!!
