$90.00 In Glue And Counting...Almost As Much As The Carpet...!!!

Mark....

Hello....Here is a link on Barry's website of the carpet job we did on my Greenwood in November and December last year. We did much work to the interior of the car, new seats, new carpet....New Sony Xplode front speakers and a host of smaller items.

One of the most nerve wracking was cutting off the old carpet on the door panels..What a chore......That PALED in comparison with the rear of the C3. The front of the car went so darn fast, I think Barry and I and my son Alex got a bit cocky....The back sure brought us down a notch or two.

I would NOT want to do this for a living, But I guess we figure out the tricks of the trade. I as well purchased my carpet from Wally/Al Knoch...

I think I spent about $75.00 on the glue...I initially had no idea the 3M Spray cost sooo much, but it was well worth the $$ spent. The entire interior restoration carpet, seats, speakers, door panel repairs ran me about $1,000.00 Which in my eye was money well spent.

Regards,

Andy

Thanks Andy..

I checked out the web page...Very Nice. Your car looks Sweeeeet..!! Your install is much more involved then mine due all the independent sections in the rear area as well as the front door panels and back of the seats.

Your Install came out excellent. I see you used Dynomat which probably made it easier to lay the carpet flat. I'm using the Horse hair type with a rubber top which is thicker and much more of a PITA.

Anyway .. I might have some help I hope over the weekend to deal with the rear area. That seems to be the PITA part. The front should go easier.

Thanks for postig the pic's

Mark -- Have you tried a heat gun on the carpet to help it lay flat ??

I asked Rob about that ... He said I could use the heat gun but that it might take the shape or mold out of the carpet since it is formed by heat when molded. But I think maybe I'll try it and see what happens..

just a quick note on Andy's carpet install Mark. That underlayer is not dynamat. It was a foil type insulation from Lowe's which acts as a heat barrier. It was real easy to put on and wrap around the contours and curves. Also mush easier to apply the glue unlike yours because it doesn't aborb it like the material you are using.
Plus, it was a LOT less expensive than Dynamat!

Mark...

The name of the silver backed underlayment was Reflectix...Bought at Lowes in the roofing section. They have different size rolls. I used a total of 40 feet..width was 2' sections. Total cost was $40.00 for both rolls.

Geez Mark, This is starting to look like one of Barry's posts..... Up to 5 pages already.

If you think your carpet is hard to do, you should try the 63/64 version with all those little pieces.....

I used a product called Frost King (also from Lowes, but in the furnace section) in my car. It is a dense foam with adhesive on one side and foil on the other. It worked quite well.

I looked at the Foil Stuff.. both Dyna Mat and other similar foils but decided to go with the Al Knoch Underlaymen since it was thicker and rubber backed.

Eeeeeeeeeh..!!!!! Wrong..Never again..:mad

Long way to go. Barry has 4,177 posts to your 1,833. By the way, you'll never get close if you answer two posts in one reply as you've done above. Barry would never do that! ;LOL

Yeah..maybe I'll snap a few before I get P_ _ _ ed Off...:D

Hey VNV - you still alive? Or are you unable to type due to two cans of 3M adhesive being cemented to your hands?

In all seriousness, I hope you got the carpeting put down without many more problems.

...when i left VNV this morning, he was heading out to buy a few more cans of adhesive...i only helped him with the driver's side carpet and learned enough to know that if i EVER get the bright idea of doing the carpeting myself, i'll lie down till it passes and pay someone ELSE to do this....NOT a fun job :hb

he, however, has done a nice job

So, what is the Better underlayment Al K's , Dynomat, or others? Thinking about tackling this job this week since the weather is going to be bad, although the Al K is probably out of thew question unless i can find it locally:L ;LOL :L Even though I am using his carpet
