:crazy Have recently purchased 91 and added Exotic Muscle pleneum isolators, RCE Injector, stainless works headers - cat delete, B&B 3" exhaust, DRm chip, Msd coils and wires. Won't pull 5 -6 K strong. called code 61 for secondaries port, replaced leaking plastic hoses with vacuum hose, tight fit. Vacuum pump pulls strong, secondaries opening, actuators hold although left has ever so slight leakdown. Put back together and still won't pull strong although better than before. Thinking running lean, exhaust tarnished from heat. What about secondary fuel pump and is pump available somewhere as just unit? Book says Secondary Selonoid, but it opens actuators, and also says ECM.. suggestion? Have very short window to repair before race.

Turn the ignition key on. Does the secondary vacuum pump under the passenger headlight cycle on then stop running? Duration on/off?

awesome combo you have !

It was suggested to me to pick up the 96 suburban 454 pump... I did and it worked out fine... saved about $900+ dollars compared to the whole assembly... both pumps are the same...

The best thing to do with a 61 is to follow the factory service manual instructions for troubleshooting that code. If you do that, you will probably identify the problem. Usually a 61 sets because there is troubloe somewhere in the vacuum system that operates the secondaries.

You say the vacuum pump "pulls strong". How did you test it? Typically the pump should only run continuously during long periods of WOT. If you key-up but don't start, you ought to hear the pump run momentarily to depressurize the system, then it should shut-off then run for a few seconds each minute. If you key-up/no start and the pump runs all the time, you have a leak or the pump is bad.

In any event, don't race the car without repairing that problem.

Thanks everyone for the help. I followed Hib's article and my service manual, replaced the sec. vac. soled., both actuators and new sec. vac. lines> Now it runs like the General intended it to.
