For those following my saga,

I finally broke 500 miles last night, so I made a special trip after dinner to wring the engine out and see what it would do.

All I can say is--I can't find where the hp peak is--it just keeps pulling, until I'm well over the 6000 rpm tach. I think I hit the rev limiter once, supposed to be set at 6300 rpm to save the bottom end of the engine in case of autocross.

With the heat and humidity here, it's hard to tell if there is really more pull--but I am not good at that seat-of-the pants stuff anyway. For sure, it's a machine up high.

Off the line seems ok, still spin the GSC tires.

Sound: especially down low, there is more high frequency, whiny content to the engine's sound. Up high it is a similar roar.

Idle: good, but it really doesn't tolerate low speed travel in 1st and 6th anymore. In 1st, better keep it above 9mph and foot on the gas, no crawl at 6-7 mph capability. In 6th, forget it until 60 mph with your foot on it. So I have to use 5th from 35-60 mph.

It is nice to hear the car has some good performance.... when will you hit the 1/4 mile? I am really interested in hearing what speed it runs through the traps

Andy,

i'm sure once you get it to the track that'll tell the tale :)

good luck!

Yeah, I will probably go up to Englishtown on Saturday to do the 1/4 mile, and maybe the humidity will be less.

I really want a corvette vs corvette shootout, because with the humidity, a time / trap speed isn't as meaningful. I saw a 95 ZR1 a few weeks ago do 12.9 bests, and I know that car is faster than that. The LT4 was only running 13.1 best.

Rich/Mic, are you going to Capital? If the weather is good, I will try that instead of Englishtown.

If I get my exhaust on tomorrow and the weather is decent, I'll probably go to Capitol. Otherwise I'll use the GTech over the weekend. I'm still trying to get the house back together after we got hit by lightning last weekend; not sure how much car time I'll have for a while.

I forgot that Gina and I have a dinner date Friday. So, I'll have to wait or go to Englishtown.
FYI, there are some nice autocrosses every month given by the ches. Porsche club:

Andy i am out of racing till i can get some new meat on the vette. i have to do some shuffling of the GSC's and find some cheapo's to put up front and pull 1 GSC to the back that is burnt to the belts :D money is tight still looking for a Tech job :cry

long story short i pinched a curb last year on my RR tire and had to replace it and it has still 70% tread left on it. left side is shot. i don't even want to turn the car over on a launch. so after i got it back from the dealer 2 weeks ago my RF tire is flat spotted so that is shot. so what i am doing is moving my LF to the LR and putting some new ones or used if i can find some from a friendly CAC member :) to get me by for now.i was hoping to get 5k more miles out of them which would of put me close to 25k on 60% or so tread life on the original GSC's that were on the car when i bought it 1 1/2 years ago.

man i never thought going into the computer networking field would be so dang tight. IT's KILLING ME! so i took a job at a Mercedes dealership in Annapolis to shuttle old people back and forth from the dealer to home/work in new Benz's till i find a Tech job. i start Tuesday :)

not much an hour but will give me some play money and now that i am back in school cause when my dad died last year i couldn't concentrate and the MCSE + MCDBA + CCNA courses you can't afford not to be in tip top shape when it comes to brain power. so hopefully 7 months from now i'll have my MCSE and won't have this problem of not finding a good paying tech job. hell i'd be happy to be making what i was in construction before my accident making 35-50K a year depending on all the over time + bonuses i used to get.

sorry bout the rant but my pockets are hurting till i settle this case. if you guys do go to the track let me know. Wed nights is test and tune at Cecil and i know a few 3rd, 4th gen F-Bods and a few C4 guys thats been trying to get me to go even with the invite to swap some rims and tires to a used set of 17's michelin pilot's to get me down the track so i can have some fun. this time last year i still had almost 30k in the bank and was doing anything i wanted this year is killing me :cry

Mic,
I went to Cecil last Wed. and will gain tomorrow, weather permitting. Sorry to hear about your rubber--switching the GSC's
left to right is ok, I checked once with Goodyear. You won't lose much dry traction. I'd watch out in the wet though.

It seems computer technology is not the field to be in right now. How about real estate agent or stock broker? They make a ton and have little accountability if something goes wrong.

Rich,

i think track opens at 5pm and it's 12 dollars to run. it's about an hour to get there. i've been a few times but not to race just to watch.

with school on mon - wed's i won't be able to go. i can do fri nights at capitol though :D

Rich,
The track is exit 100 from I-95 and is about 30 min. north of my house, so it is no longer of a round trip than capital.

Vettelt193,
Sad to see your LT4 for sale.

It didn't run like I wanted to -- about 13.3 @ 108 mph best, which is exactly as before. Although, more consistent now, my worst time was 13.55 and average was probably 13.4.

I need to run again and make sure I am letting it wind out to 6000 rpm in 1st and 2nd, as I didn't when I was on the road side. Also, there is the weather difference. And, it is very hard to get a good launch, and that launch affects more than the 60 foot time.

Still, I was hoping for 60 flywheel hp out of this, so what is that, .6 or .7s in the 1/4? Seems like a big difference.

I am sure you will dip into the 12's with ease, once the car is fully broken in and you get better at driving with the new setup.

Why don't you go to Capitol Raceway in Crofton? Isn't that closer? Test and tune every Friday at 5 PM to 11 PM.

See: http://www.capitolraceway.com/FridayTest-Tune.htm

Last week I got in 7 runs, and was interviewed for the ABC World News Tonight. It will air at 6:30 PM, Friday August 1st. What a blast. They took video of me, the car, the burnout, the launch and the timing ticket pickup! My best was 13.71/104.95.

He goes there, as do myself and Mad-Mic. However, Sothpaw lives north of the city (works near the airport) so it's way out of his way to get there.

Weather permitting, I'll be there tomorrow, wondering if the slip I feel is clutch or tires...
