I Have a 98 C5 Corvette:

No Issues until I left it out for a few bad winter storms did use it for about 4 weeks.

1. Car would not start; Changed battery car still didn't start. Put the car in neutral it started. It not starts in park and starts up with no problems. It seem as if If I leave the battery hooked up. The battery does get drained within a day. However I am not absolutely sure about this.

2. I was about to drive the car for about a few miles, now as I said It start fine, but when driven a few feet either forward or reverse, the car stalls out. But starts up fine time and time again.

What's making the car stall?

Codes all with H next to them;

HI there,

You need a NEW 78-6YR battery with at least 550 CCA and 120 reserve capacity.

Torque your battery terminals to 11 ft lbs and you will be fine.

All your issues will be gone.

Thank you for your prompt response,

If you think I Should change out the battery again, I will do so. My current battery is a new
Interstate MT-78; 770 CCA; 875 CA.

How do I find out what the reserve is; Also it my understanding that once the car starts; its not running off the battery anymore, is this not true?

thank again.

UPDATE: I spoke the interstate people the RC is 120 on the battery. Without a torque wrench how to make sure its at the correct tq

Nope,These newer electronically controlled vehicles need to have a good battery or it'll do all sorts of weird crap!!:thumb

HI there,

Ok, then remove the key from the ignition, disconnect the negative terminal for 10 mins and then reconnect and get the terminals TIGHT.

Tell us what happens and what codes are set.

Hi there,

Your fuel system is being cut off.

You will need a scan tool to determine if your fuel enable is being cut off or if your just losing fuel pressure.

Your fuel pressure should be 55-61 psi or 380-420 kpa

Thank you;

Could changeing the fuel filter solve this issue, I'm avoiding taking it to the dealship, thought I could try this one last thing; thanks. do you know a resonable place in the Upper Darby, PA area. 19082 is the Zip.

thanks

Update:

I had a friend come by and help me try to diagnose the problem; We will pressure test later on today. He suggested it may bot be pressure related, because the engine -immediately- cuts off. It sounds electrically related could it be the infamous ground connections?

Hi Ya'll....I was looking at this and wanted to say that my neighbor never parks inside garage. He has a GM pick-up truck, was not driven for over a month and he had very similiar problem. Come to find out (after he finally took it to dealer tech) that a mouse or rat had gotten in engine compartment and chewed wires. Repaired wires and it was fine.....just wanted to mention....best of luck....

Hello-

Update, we hooked to it to a scan tool; This particular tool could not real fuel pressure; hopefully this will be done tomorrow; The mechanic suspects the Mass Air flow to be faulty, he see the readings on the machine; What should the readings be at iddle?

Again, could a fuel filter help?

MAF sensor readings should be between 5-7 grams per second.

Fuel pressure cannot be read with a scan tool, you will need to hook up a fuel pressure gauge.

Your fuel filter, if you have 2 hoses, supply and return should only be about $40 and about a 1/2 hour to change.

As for the rest, looking at the scan tool data, you should see NO CODES and Fuel enable should say YES.
