Well, today I spent about 8 hours on a job I was not looking forward to…..changing the A and B pillar weather-striping. I was reluctant because of all the horror stories I had heard about the weather striping not fitting properly, leaking more after the install, all the usual suspects.

I am not going to tell you this was the easiest job, but it was manageable and any one with average skills. Patience is the key and test fitting the w/s is essential. Vtvette (from Corvetteforum) is to be commended for his guidance. I was so involved with the work that I didn’t take any pictures, but it is really pretty straightforward. I bought the w/s from LoneStar Muscle car, I feel this w/s is very good and matched the w/s that was on the car very well.

The most difficult part of the job is removing the old w/s adhesive, my local parts store didn’t have the adhesive remover, so I resulted to carefully scraping it off and using a little lacquer thinner to rub out the remaining stuff. The doors now shut very solidly, and the top didn’t go back on too easy either. I had to work to get the new w/s compressed enough to get the bolts to start.

I am so happy to have this job done, I certainly hope that this will help stop the minor leak at the front of the door when it rained hard…time will tell.

Yeah for you!!! I took the chicken's way out and paid an installer to do my A & B pillar weatherstripping. Not only did he scratch the driver's side interior pillar frame in 2 places, the driver's side door doesn't close very well now either. Looks as if I'm gonna have to redo this myself.
I purchased targa strips from LoneStar via Ebay. I'm gonna do these myself whenever the weather breaks outta the high 90s/low 100s here.
Happy Vette-ing!!! :w

I have to pull "firmly" on the doors to get it to shut completely. I am letting it set out in the sun today to let the w/s "mold' to the windows a bit. It's supposed to be 109* today, that ought to warm up the w/s so it will seat.

Weather stripping and 109 F

Congratulations. Sounds like you were successful. Working on cars is a great way to develop patience. I just took off my thumbnail two weeks ago while doing an MR2 engine swap. ;shrug I guess I am not done developing yet! I found Lonestar on ebay a couple months ago. Their pricing looks great. Glad to hear the product is good. It gets to 109 in SW Kansas?!?!? Oh Doctor!:crazy
