The A.C. compressor on my C3 has gone bad and a new one is about to be installed. My question is; if I run the belt on the old compressor with the clutch switch off or disconnected, will the junk from the old compressor continue to dirty-up the rest of the system. I need to drive to the shop for the A.C. work and I what to install the new A.C. belt before taking the car there.

it will run as long as the compressor isn't seized.....

Unless the clutch is seized no reason to not drive it. But I have to let you know that if the compressor has died, the entire system will be full of trash. You'll need to replace the orifice tube and dryer, and flush everything else. Lines, evaporator, condenser will all contain trash that will plug the system again. Replacing the dryer is just a good practice whenever the system is opened for any length of time anyway.

Thanks guys; had the compressor replaced and I will be set for the hot summer. Thanks again for the info.
