A/C display

My 1987 Coupe has auto climate control. Right above the controls there is a small window which I understand is a LED readout. There you know the outside temp, fan speed, etc. The trouble in my car is that that display goes on and off periodically. I guess it may be a loose connection or cable. Any of you have had the same problem? I know that to check it I have to remove the center panel but Iwould like to have some ideas before I start taking evrything apart.:eek :crazy

A/C

I had a similar problem with the control on my 86 Coupe. I removed the face plate from the control box and seperated the face plate halves by cutting off the little plastic brads with an exato knife. The board appeared fine but I went ahead and re soldered the attachement points for the connector. I have had no more problems since. Someone here at CAC had a more detailed set of instructions but I'm sorry I can't remember who. I had already tried just cleaning the contacts on mine with no improvement. Hope this helps. PS A little RTV or expoxy will hold the face plate half together and be carful all the push buttons will fall out when you seperate the panel.

I have this problem also. I hope there is an easy fix. The above link is a little complicated and I am not electrically inclined.

Remove the A/C control unit from the dash. After you disconnect the control cable from the unit, use a clean pencil eraser to clean the contacts on the circuit board. Just rub lightly on the gold-colored portion of the board. Re-attach the cable and turn the ignition on and see if everything lights up and the display appears.

Sometimes these contacts can get a film on them and prevents a good connection.
