a/c heat control lights on/off

My 89 coupe ac/heat control lights go on and off when i press the and the display goes and comes. Anybody have any ideas is the control switch bad?????????????

I don't know if your a/c is the same as my 86 with the electronic control but it sounds like it. I would check with someone and be sure but if it is here is what I did to mine. You remove the center trim panel exposing the a/c control. There are two metal clips one on each side. Pop them off and pull the control panel out leaving the rest of the module in the car. Use a pencil eraser and some contact cleaner that is safe for plastics and clean the contacts. Check the printed circuit board for bad solder joints and resolder. If you still have a problem you can take the circuit board off the face plate by taking a sharp knife and cutting off the plastic rivet heads. Be carful when doing this as the push buttons will fall out but can be placed back in position without much trouble. Again check all solder joints and resolder clean the contacts. On my car I went ahead and hit all the contact solder points even though there was no obvious problem. Mine now works great and it has been several months. Good luck Hope this helps Charlie
