Just bought the car and noticed when A/c is running a scretching sound under the hood. Can not here it inside. Is this normal in c5's?

HI there,
Well, no, I wouldnt say that it is normal. You may have an idler pulley that is not working correctly.
If you turn off the AC, the noise goes away, or decreases??

C4C5 SPECIALIST THANKS FOR ANSWERING, A/C NOISE GOES AWAY WHEN THE A/C IS TURNED OFF.

Hi there,
I would suggest that you will either need a serpentine belt for the AC compressor, or the idler pulley, or the tensioner.
Honestly, I would remove the belt, and see if any of the pulleys make any noise when you rotate them. If none make noise, then you can assume simply a belt is needed.

A/C noise under hood - 2000 coupe

I had a similar occurrence of noise from the belts. I coated the belts with soap, and that stopped the noise for a while. I also used a belt compound that was marginally successful. The problem was that the balancer on the crankshart was out of true. It was changed and the noisy belt problem went away. With the engine running, you should be able to see if the balancer is running true. Just watch out for the fan blades.
