What is the difference in cost of servicing a 1993 and a 1994?

That was the year when freon was stopped and l believe r-124 was used.

It was R-134...

This will open a can of worms...but what the hey. I bought a kit with Enviro-safe a drop in replacement that is enviromentaly safe to use and does not require a license. Three cans, a hose and a can of leak stop was 48.00 that you can install yourself. If interested email or pm me and i will provide the details as well as where you can get your MVAC license for 20.00 which will allow you to get freon...and R-134 when they change the law in the near future.

134 vs r12

You can't put in the same amount of r134 that the sticker calls for on the car. I think you take 10% off the required weight for r12, and put that amount of 134 in the system. Remember to pull it into a vac.

As mentioned before, the service cost is minimal for the R134 if you do it yourself. It's worth a try! It's really very simple. If it's a high mileage car and it lasted for that long and you re-charge it, hopefully it'll last that long again! There's no real easy way to find leaks in an A/C system. There's a procedure with injecting dye into the system that's sensitive to ultraviolet light. It all depends what you're up for! Most of the above can be had at your local autoparts store.

An a/c leak can be easily seen. When the refregerent leaks out the oil left behind collects dirt. Look for oily dirt spots. They usually occur where the lines connect to the compressor or a fitting that holds the ref. line to the chassis has rubbed a spot in a line over time.

Just look for the dirt!
