Anyone know how to get a 84 vette faster for cheap or some easy work?? I already have high performance Pacesetter TFX mufflers and a Z-Industries power chip. The chip alone gave me an extra 25hp and 22lbs torque. Are there any more cheap or easy things I can do to my c4 to make it faster?? How much HP can you get from taking out the AC?? I heard this will increase your HP...;shrug
Any info would be great!

Go to www.c4vettes.com and click on performance enhancements (?) and it will guide you through a series of steps to gain incremental horsepower numbers. If you have the chip and flowmasters, what's left is the K&N with open cover, MAF screen removal etc. without going into heavy mods.
That is quite a claim for the chip. How did you arrive at that figure?:bu

One post is enough, and please change your signature picture. Read our guidelines if there is any question as to why I am asking this of you. Thank you.

The short answer is: NO

The '84 has no screen. Lends some level of credibility to the rest of the comments.

The cheapest way to speed up an '84 is to sell it and buy a faster one. Been there; done the opposite.

The intake is the big restriction. The ports are too small for any serious increase with no room for enlargement.

Headers wil help, but will affect the computer to a minor degree. A "hotter" cam may help or hurt, but will DEFINITELY screw up the ECM, which is very limited in capability and change. Mr. Z redid my chip after the cam change and the car ran way too rich. One cannot 'mail-order' a chip and expect much of a result. I tried, again and again, with known experts.

The hardest part is weeding out the facts from all the BS, here and with most 'hot rod' shops.

I would dispute those HP gains from a chip change, too.

:w

Aint no such thing as 'cheap' horsepower.

Youll need new cam, intake, bigger displacement, exhaust work go get serious power.

Thats what I figured....I am always thinking about selling it to get a newer one. A 93 would be nice:D
Thanks for all your comments. It was a big help. I might as well enjoy it while its there then think about selling it. Its in great condition with only 57,000 miles, so I will be able to get some money out of it when I get ready to sell. I ended up ripping this guy off:grinshot

Thanks again!

Hey 84brzvette,
Dont listen to any bad talk about the 84 CFI E-mail me for some info on how to do this and do it cheap.

Cheapest way might be a crate engine. There are several over on eBay.

Even cheaper would be to sell the 84 and buy 69MayWay´s 90.

How much is he selling it for??

Hmmm. Wonder why he is sending that info in private.....

because you have an '88 Z52. Yours is fast enough damnit:bash

:D :D

Faster vette

82/84 Crossfires can be made to run very easily if you do not mind doing a lot of your own work. E-Mail me and I will give you a complete list of Mods & could help you do most of them.
You might need a spare manifold / TBs if you don't have another car to drive.

Sure you can make it faster than what it is. But by how much is the real question. If you add say 25HP then it will be faster. But doing cheap and easy mods that will make it faster than let's say a stock LT4? I highly doubt it. If you crossfire owners can step up and show us how it's done. That would really educate us on crossfires. The price of C4's has gone down. I've seen LT4's going for $14,000 with 70,000 miles. That's allot of needed upgrades and money on a crossfire to get it to those horsepower levels if you don't do all the work yourself.

Just trying to help out, no need to flip.

I do not remember the exact price 69MyWay was asking, but it was so low I thought that you could not do the mods for the same price.

He was talking about ripping out the hot motor and sticking the stock L98 back in if nobody bought it in the near future.

Why don’t you PM him and work a deal?

I agree with you on that you need a BIN that has been modded for what you have not one for the Tstat and trans shift points.

I am not flipping out. It is just an automatic deffense of my car.

If you crossfire owners can step up and show us how it's done.

I am in the process of doing all of my stuff so that I can make a post for those of you who would like to know how it is done.

That would really educate us on crossfires.

That is my whole intention on this project. It is not to just "show up anyone"

Hmmm. Wonder why he is sending that info in private.....

It is because I was giving a link to him, nad I was not shure how the moderator feels about things like that.

Go to www.c4vettes.com and click on performance enhancements (?) and it will guide you through a series of steps to gain incremental horsepower numbers.

They only work with the tuned port cars.

We don't have a problem posting links to other sites. Whatever it takes to educate and enlighten is what we're all after in the end, right? :upthumbs

After you've been here a while, you begin to see we're all just gearheads at heart and basically love 'em all. You see us talkin' Mopars, Pontiacs, Bullitt's favorite - Ferarri, Fords, and even the import cars. Those who don't care for cars carrying anything other than the Bow Tie, either choose to not respond (especially in a derogatory manner) or choose to leave the site altogether. I understand brand-loyalty but I'm still interested in talking about 'em all. :D

As they say - "Keep the shiny side up, the rubber side down, and Save The Wave!" :w

By the way, Chris' (69MyWay) ride is well worth every penny! ;)

Thanks Ken for clarifing all of that for me I just felt that I needed to "back myself up"

If you dont mind me giving out the forum URL I will just let me know it is Prodominatly for Cross-fire powered cars though.

I just emailed him. Thanks for the info!:beer

Thanks for the links and emails 84vetteboy, Rocket, and everyone else who gave info. It was all a lot of help and cleared a few things up for me.:w

Always open for suggestions!:J
