For some of the folks who dont leave this area of the forum

Well another car is damaged by fire, Its an unfortunate reminder we all need to carry a full sized fire exstinquizer, (I personally allways have them in my cars) Allthought it would not have saved this fellow READ HIS STORY It a reminder to us that we have to if not for our self then to help others,I will follow his story closeley and hopefully he will have a speedysettelment and be back on the road soon if not in this car maybee another one.from the c3 forum A SAD DAY
 
It is sad indeed. I've never seen Rick's car in person, but the pictures that he's shown of it here in the forums were incredible.

I think this is a good reminder to all of us that safety is extremely important to keep in mind. I keep a fire extinguisher right by the door of my garage where I keep my Vette as well as a very small fire extinguisher tucked into one of the small storage compartments behind the seats of my Vette.

Unfortunately, neither would have been helpful in Rick's situation since he didn't realize what was happening till he looked out the window, but regardless, any one of us could be in a similar situation and in need of a fire extinguisher.
 
It's sad to see and hear of things like this. I hope all of us get 'up close and personal" with our cars. Get under, around, all over the car, touch everthing you can to see what's right or what's wrong. Don't forget your scheduled maintaince of rubber products. In the big picture there cheep to replace compared to the potential they hold for serious damage. If you don't ever get under your car, try to get it on a lift at a service station for a touchy feely session. :beer
 
That's pretty depressing, and I really feel sorry for the guy; it also points out the folly of having ANY rubber hose between the fuel pump and the carburetor - that's the only portion of the fuel system that's under pressure, which is why the OEM design is all steel. Better than half the cars I see at shows have some kind of rubber hose/clamps adaptation arrangement between the pump and the carb for filters, adapting wrong carbs, etc. - that's just plain SCARY!
