Cool.....I have an '86 I got about 6 months ago too! I had an '86 when I was 19 back in the late 80's.....so a bit of nostalgia for me I guess.

My favs are '86 and ''87.....but love 'em all really. I think it's the rims.....ya either love 'em or hate 'em.....and the dash.....love that till it starts blinkin' on and off, lol

yeah my dash was the first thing to fix when i got mine, it just went black a few weeks after i got it but the owner told me he was having trouble with it and took some off for it. mine had 1989 17" rims which i have to say i like more. only thing i have been doing so far is replaceing most old rubber parts. its a ton lot more fun then the 75 vette i totally fixed up about 6 years ago! not EVEN the same car!! just wish i had LT-1 horse power? and why i am thinking about headers and a new exhaust system, biggest thing for horse power but about $1000 all said a done?

Same here....is there some sort of quick fix thing people do before they sell them? ha-ha! Y

ea, weatherstrip is an issue for me too.

Yup, seems no matter how you go about it.....if you do it the right way, about 1k or so.

well i have sold alot of cars in my day, 30 or so, so yeah some find ways to do get all things working before they sell. buyer beware you know!! but the guy i got mine from was honest about the dash and took some off for the repair. i think i got a great deal on my 86 vette, i got it for $4400 and have only put another grand in it so far to get it to pass MD insepction and emissions. but i got it for fun and a hobbie so i find things to do, and aleast want to get her back to her former glory, and with this web site's help i think i can make it better then bowling green did 20 years ago.

Cool.....best of luck with it.....it can be done! I got my first '86 back in '89, from a huge "vette dealer named Visone Corvette.....anyone remember them? It was a real creampuff, with 9300 miles, and got it for the price of a new IROC back then.....which I considered a great deal!

I tell ya though, the one I bought last summer would probably take my first.....runs awesome, and nicely opted Z51 with pretty much every option.....even two factory roofs. But.....it's an early '86, so it has the Iron Heads.....so what did I do? Got some alluminum ones ready to go on when I rebuild it down the line, lol.

Now, I'd just like to take it apart and find out what's been modded on it, and share it here. But no time right now.

Sounds like me. I bought my first (and current) vette november 04 and love it. It's an 87'. Bought it because it was an awesome deal. But I too put $1k into it easily within the first months. But over the year I've had it the people at CAC really helped me out with the "small things" that went wrong. Great bunch of people here.
Enjoy the vette!
