ABS in relation to e-brake?

It's very odd. When I am stopped at a light and I depress the brake it makes a wierd sound off and on like something is trying to engage. I am assuming this is from the abs.
When I bought the car, the e-brake wasn't hooked up due to the previous owner (my brother in-law who is a shade tree mechanic) did a brake job but didn't hook the ebrake back up. So this weekend i was working on it. After the E-brake was fixed, the brake engaging noise was constant when I was at a stop. I Went back and looked at the e-brake. There is a little sensor/metal piece that when the e-brake is pulled up, sends for the brake light on the dash display to go on. I played with the sensor a bit and now the brake engaging noise does not happen.
My questions: What is that noise/ feeling when I depress the brake? It used to come on and off. (abs?). Also what is that sensor/piece of metal's relation to the noise?
Please shed some light.
thanks,
shane

it's back. The grinding/engaging sound when i apply the brake.

Anyone at all out there?

Sorry, neither my abs nor ebrake make any unusual noises.

Good luck with your diagnosis.

the grinding/engaging only happens after i take off and then come to a stop at a light. when stopped at the light it starts engaging. i can't figure it out.

Please describe what you mean by brake engaging noise...the sensor you speak of, is it located near the hub bearing assembly held in with a single bolt and does it appear to be magnetic? If so, the sensor you describe may acutally be the rear abs sensor. Do you get any warning lights on the dash? ABS light, brake light? Do you hear the noise with your foot on the brake pedal? What about foot off the pedal?

Is it the noise when you first start it up from the ABS controller? (Hope that is a close name to what it really is)

After driving the car and coming to a stop at a light, I press down on the brake and it feels like something is trying to engage. Like there is something pushing back when i depress the brake. It also makes a noise when it pushes back. No lights or sensors come on the dash. It was like that when i purchased the car but only came on intermittently. Now it always comes on at a light. I am really lost on what it could be as i have never had a car with abs? The sound almost seems like it is coming from behind the driver's seat.
any ideas?
