I am almost due for an oil change, and i thought that with Cruise Fest coming up I would go ahead and change it. I went to Auto Zone to buy oil and a filter. I thought i remembered which oil filter to use. I looked on the shelf for PF 25 and there was no slot. I then looked it up in the book and sure enough the book called for PF 25. I asked at the counter and they said they no longer have it, but cross referenced it with other filters. I guess now AC Delco PF 454 is acceptable to use on the car. After looking at the filter, I thought it looked odd. It is about 1 and a half inches shorter then my PF 25. So what should i do, put that on, or try to find another filter. Has anyone else had a problem finding the PF 25 oil fitler.

thanks

I had an 86 and 87 over the last couple of years and that is all I used. I had both cars serviced at the local Chevy dealer by my Uncle. I also ordered a tune up kit from Mid America for the 87 and the PF 454 oil filter was included.

How long ago did you purchase the kit from Mid America. I too have always used AC Delco parts on my vette. For some reason I just do not like the fact that it is that much shorter. Did you have any problems with the new filter?

Craig

My local AutoZone still carries a PF25. Did you try a Shucks/Kragen store? A good alternative to the AC Delco filter is a K&N and they have a nut on the bottom that makes filter removal easy. Another good filter is a Purolator.

Just stay away from Fram.

VB86,
I have one last PF25 remaining from my '85 days......if you want it I will drop it in the mail. I have no use for it whatsoever. I'm not sure how long they are good for but it is still in the box and is probably 10 - 12 years old............

I guess i will have to check at a Pep boys or Advanced auto. The woman at auto zone tried selling me an stp or a fram, I said no thanx. I went ahead for the time bieng and installed the PF 454 although i dont like it. I will have to do some checking around and see if i can find the PF 25 somewhere before the cruise fest.

Go with the K&N it fits perfect & its high quality: But a few bucks extra.

I ordered the tune up kit from Mid America around last October. I bought the car in Aug. and did a lot of gremlin chasing with it, and finally tuned it up after all of that was taken care of. I never had any problem with it, it looked like the one that was taken out of it, and really never gave it another thought.

I know the K&N has the 1in nut on the bottom, but what else makes it so much more expensive than others. I know their air filters are good, but what makes the oil filter so good. Just wandering.

I use the K&N or Mobil 1 oil filters. They're both advertised as high efficiency oil filters and I also like their case strength. FRAM is pretty much cardboard junk from what I've read.

Yeah, the K&N's and Mobil 1's cost a few bucks more. But we change our oil 3-4 times a year, how much money do you really save? Get the higher quality oil filters, it's worth it.

BTW, Mobil 1 synthetic is available at Wal Mart in 5 quart containers for $20.00 so check it out! :w

Thanks to all for you help and info. I went ahead and put on the AC Delco, but in the future I am going to switch to the K and N.

thanks again
