Question: accelarator squeel

I have a c5 convertable and when i depress the accelarator i hear a squeeling noise ...could this be a belt or something else?

Is it a consistent noise or does the pitch change with engine RPM? Does the squeal change pitch with the speed of the car? I am assuming that when the car is stationary their is no squeal.

Yes...when i do not have my foot on the accelarator there is no squeal...when you press the accelarator the queal announces itself

I'm having the same issue....

Note to self:
1. on the way to work, pay attention to on again-off again squealing.
2. is it constant, pitch changes, etc.
3. check back into this thread.

OK, I can't resist... Is the squeel accompanied by a puff of smoke from the area around the rear tires? If so, turn the TC back on!otfl

If you rev the engine while in park does it squeal?

Does the squeal change pitch or get louder the higher the RPMs are?
or
Does the squeal change pitch or get louder with the speed of the car?

Does the squeal come from the front of the car or the back?

As others have mentioned it sounds like a belt or pulley but we need more information.

So we have determined its a belt/pulley or harmonic balancer squeal. Next you have to determine which one of those that's causing the noise. I would try spraying some soapy water on one belt at a time and rev the engine to see if the squeal goes away. Once you find your noisy belt replace it. If none of the belts are making the noise I would move on to the pulleys.

In rare occasions I've heard of the harmonic balancer making all the noise.

The most important part of all this is WATCH your fingers while the engine is running.

Junk any other ideas?

My guess is belt tensioner pulley or one of the AC idler pulleys!! I change allot of them!

LD, I agree with the rest of the replys, the only change is that i use wd-40, works real good for me. LD i am located in st. louis which is not far from you. may be some day we can join up and go to a show. speaking of good show, there is a good one in joplin mo. aug.14-15-16th. of august. may be the best show we have been too, even the show of cars (last year about 125) not overly large but good size, was held in a large AIR CONDITIONED place inside, which is great in aug. in mo.
