I have noticed that a few of the rear letters, (thick acrylic), that were installed on my car seem to be loose. I would like to remove them but am worried about damaging the paint. Has anyone removed these before? Is there a glue residue left? Can this be cleaned off easily?

I used to have the black acrylic letters on the back of my torch red coupe. I decided to switch them out to the more flush fit carbon fiber letters. Getting the old letters off was not that hard but it will take some time.

My advise is to get a hair dryer and heat the letters as you pull them off. There is going to be some double stick tape residue after pulling the letters off. I continued to use the hair dryer to heat soften the glue and tape and used the soft part of my thumb to roll the tape back and off the paint. This takes some time. Be patient. Any leftover residue can be cleaned off with a soft cloth and some bug and tar remover or lighter fluid (Naptha). I used the lighter fluid. Works great. You will want to then wash the area down with soap and water and apply a good wax for protection. Good luck.

I haven't tried this stuff, but I understand it is good for removing adhesive from your car:
