I have an 1988 Conv. and recently purchased a removeable hardtop from a 1992 which should arrive any day. Does anyone know if I need to purchase any adapters or other hardware to make this top work with an 1988 Conv. If I do need something, where can I get it?

Hmmm... One of our other members here who I just met the other day and now cannot remember his screen name, has a similar situation. Will, if you see this, please respond to not only a fellow member of this fine community, but also a fellow Californian! :upthumbs

You do need an adapter kit. The convertible hardtop became an option in 1989, so all 1989-and-up convertibles have the ability to accept a hard top. I'm not sure where you can find a retrofit kit, maybe your local dealer can find one for you. You will also need the two brackets, and all the bolts, I think there are ten of them, and the little ratchet for the header bolts. The hard top backlight also has a defroster if you're feeling ambitious about doing some wiring.

I was told that the late 88 verts were set up for the hadrtop. Don't know how true this is it was told to me by a vendor that was selling hardtops in Carlisle. Chuck

Quoted from Michael Antonick's "The Corvette Black Book":

"New convertible options for late 1989 introduction included an...RPO CC2 removable hardtop."

So there you have it. If someone out there has a 1988 convertible with factory bolt holes pre-drilled for the hard top brackets, I would like to see pictures, although I tend to place a considerable amount of trust in the Black Book.

Hardtop for convertible

My original post is now moot. I bought a 1995 convertible that this top does work with without adapters.
